rereading epic of gilgamesh and WOW im still such a HO for the themes of predestined rivalry with an undercurrent of romance and tragedy
#thinking abt how gilgamesh is 2/3rds divine#and became more OP than the GODS#and bc he became OP and arrogant#the GODS fashioned him a rival out of clay#made a weapon to strike down hubris#but over time the rivals became friends/lovers#and then this bestie of his who was made to kill him died in his arms#something abt humanity's first epic being both a romance and a tragedy gets to me#gilgamesh the king of life but can't stop his best friend from dying#also thinking abt how enkidu succeeded in the design he was made for: to kill gilgamesh#but enkidu killed him in a different way: by dying#bc grief while is love persisting can be a type of death#so in the end gilgamesh who is more OP than the GODS#was defeated by FATE
